Baseball and golf are as synonymous as ham and eggs, peanut butter and jelly, bread and buter or cheese and sprinkles (okay... I just got back from seeing the movie, Rio - that last one may be a bit of a stretch but work with me here) Wait.. You don't agree with me? You may change your mind once you see the new right field foul pole in San Diego's PETCO Park.
TaylorMade-adidas and the San Diego Padres unveiled an 80-foot tall R11 driver foul pole that will stay on the field through the 2013 baseball season. This larger than life TaylorMade R11 driver stands nearly nine stories tall, it is all-aluminum and runs parallel with the current foul pole. It weighs 950 pounds and is crowned by a 14-foot by 8-foot tall image of the R11 clubhead positioned on the fence in the right field corner of the ballpark. The installation took 250 man hours to complete and the result is pretty darn cool!
What about that grip? Is it made of rubber? Not quite! The weather and impact-resistant grip is also aluminum. It was custom rolled to .90" and welded into a taper before getting a textured bed lining like you find in the back of some vehicles, like pick-up trucks.
Why PETCO Park? "TaylorMade is a leading national brand - a thought leader based right here in San Diego," said Padres Vice Chairman & CEO Jeff Moorad.
Each homerun out of the park will also benefit charity, since TaylorMade has vowed to donate $600 for every "drive" (ie. homerun) a Padres player sends over the left, center, or right field fence in support of "Solutions for Change" - a charity organization in North County San Diego committed to eliminating family homelessness in the county.
